StreamAwakening to Grace

Grace is awakening to the blessings of life.

Grace is the realization that the power that creates the universe is friendly and supports your life.

Grace is awareness that your body is a community of 100 trillion coordinated cells that allow you to move and think and sing. Grace is the realization that quadrillions of bacteria, archaea, protists, plants, animals and fungi work together to provide you with food, oxygen and other essentials of life. Grace is the realization that millions of your ancestors expressed their love of life through billions of small and large acts so that you exist today.

It is the realization that if any one of several universal constants, such as speed of light, gravitational constant, or the energy in quantum of light differed by any amount, we would not be here. Although this realization (whether through science or contemplation) has nothing to say about whether these constants were the result of random chance or "designed", that life exists is awe-inspiring. Grace is the realization that supernovas exploded with the power to fuse hydrogen and helium into calcium, magnesium, phosphate and nitrogen needed to create the molecules of your body. Grace is the realization that you are immersed in the creative and loving force of the universe, known to some as Nature, or God, or Source or Being or a host of other names.

Every spiritual discipline leads to the realization of supreme gratitude for the gift of life.

A paradox of life is that we are immersed in an ocean of blessings, and yet we often fail to see them. One reason we can't see these blessings is because in our evolutionary past, there was less survival advantage to seeing blessings than to seeing potential threats. Those who percieved fear survived to pass on thir genes more than those blissed out by the beauty of the existence. Another reason for not seeing the blessings of life is because, until the recent development sophisticated imaging tools, no one had any idea that trillions of cells supported our life, that we are the products of supernovae explosions billions of years ago, or many of the other miracles of existence.

Understanding will give us compassion.
Compassion will give us love."
